We love a bit of drama with a touch of humour. Not slapstick and definitely with commercial potential. Low budget but high production values, strong female leads, we are in!
We are actively seeking good manuscripts with screen potential, from new fiction writers based in Sub Saharan Africa, the Carribean or their disapora.
We enjoy working across multiple platforms and are constantly exploring new ways of reaching audiences with all the possibilities that the internet provides.
We have a thing for human interest documentaries
with a focus on stories from the Carribean, Sub Saharan Africa or their diaspora.
The Polkadot Factory was developed by Victoria Thomas in 2010 as an umbrella company for producing content that she was passionate about. For this reason, it is very rare that we accept projects from third parties. As a general rule we do not accept projects from directors or writer/directors but we are open to having discussions with other producers. Please do not send showreels, headshots or scripts if we do not ask for them.
We are passionate about digital technology and the possibilites that it offfers and we are constantly looking for new ways to use them to take ideas from script to screen. We develop content and platform. We are not particularly traditional in our approach and we do like to take advantage of new technologies and not get too pedantic about precedent. So if you think 35mm is the holy grail and films cannot be made unless you have a million pounds and a crew of 300, look away now!
We do have a natural bias for stories that come from a female perspective or Afro Carribean one simply because we do not see that many out there. We also did our research through making short films and attending a thousand and one development labs in search of a voice which we have now found and prefer to focus on.
And if you have not guessed it yet, we can also be very direct.
